As Tam she was required to participate in government research in which she was being trained to be the ultimate assassin. Tam's capacity to control her emotions is taken from her. Glau was able to showcase not just her acting skills, but her fighting skills as a character in Firefly. Her experience as an assassin allowed her an opportunity to make use of the full range of athletic skills she has. Summer Glau, a trained classical ballerina.
